Journeying Self: Travel as Sacred Piligrimate – Self-Reflexive Ethnoghraphical Account of Palenque, Chiapas, MexicoJourneying Self: Travel as Sacred Piligrimate – Self-Reflexive Ethnoghraphical Account of Palenque, Chiapas, Mexico

A self-reflexive remembering of a young anthropologist's traveling journey draws metaphoric parallel to sacred pilgrimage stages and qualities defined by van Gennep, and further developed by Turner's 'liminoid' phenomenon, emerging into the idea of 'communitas' as an existential bond between people forming new social structures in specific places. This paper attempts to sketch an ethnographic picture of Palenque in Chiapas, Mexico, built on personal experiences and relations, integrated within theoretical issues raised and discussed within social anthropology.
